“In nature, nothing exists alone.” — Rachel Carson
Today marks a pivotal milestone—a celebration of perseverance, discovery, and the triumph of curiosity. As I am here completing my doctoral journey at the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, I am filled with profound gratitude for the intellectual adventures and collaborative spirit that have shaped this chapter of my life.
My research, “A Comparative Assessment of Bergmann’s Rule Across Terrestrial Vertebrates,” explored body size variation across latitudes in amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Our findings not only deepen our grasp of biogeographic principles but also underscore the urgency of interdisciplinary approaches to conservation in a rapidly changing world.
Foremost, I owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude to my supervisor, Professor Du Weiguo. Your visionary mentorship, unwavering patience, and infectious passion for scientific inquiry have been my guiding light. To the remarkable members of Dulab—students and teachers alike—thank you for your camaraderie, brilliance, and steadfast support. This lab is more than an academic home; it is a family. None of this would have been possible without my parents, family, and friends. Your boundless love, sacrifices, and encouragement have been the foundation of my journey.
As we step into the unknown, let us advance with humility and courage. Let us ask bold questions, challenge assumptions, and remember that science thrives not in isolation but in collaboration. May we strive to illuminate the interconnectedness of life, just as Rachel Carson envisioned.
Congratulations to my fellow graduates—may our paths continue to intersect in the pursuit of knowledge.
